Rising global consumption also has ecological consequences. These threats and influencing factors include exceeding fishing quotas, discarding, illegal illegal fishing (IUU) and the use of antibiotics in fish feed in aquacultures.

Stock trends and the quantity, size and quality of landings are altered by long-term climate fluctuations, which can lead to a drop in oxygen levels, a rise in temperature and acidification of the oceans.

In the course of this online lecture, we would like to go into detail about these effects as well as responsible fishing and consumption, which implies, among other things, certification by organizations such as the MSC and ASC.
